‘Atlantic White- Sided Dolphins’
Soft Pastel | 42.5cm x 32.3cm

I was inspired to create this piece after the mass slaughter of these dolphins that occurred in the Faroe islands in 2021 as part of an on-going tradition using boats to drive dolphins onto banks and kill them. The tradition dates back to Viking times, but this particular slaughter was of significance because the number of dolphins killed was several times larger than usual.
Atlantic White Sided-Dolphins are highly sociable and often gather in rather large groups. Sadly, in this case, it lead to the lives of so many of them being lost at once. With all the negative content that surrounded those dolphins at the time, I wanted to create a piece to remind people of the beauty of these highly active, fast swimming dolphins and hopefully inspire others to care for and want to protect them.
